Three Waters

Integrated water infrastructure

Stormwater, wastewater and water infrastructure solutions.

What is Three Waters?

In New Zealand, Three Waters refers to drinking water, wastewater and stormwater — three essential systems that support our homes, businesses and communities. The term has been widely used in local government and infrastructure planning since the 2010s, as these services were increasingly considered together because of their shared infrastructure, investment and management requirements.

For a property or development, Three Waters is about understanding how water is supplied, how wastewater is managed and how stormwater is collected and discharged, and how these systems need to work together on the site.

Much of this work falls under Civil Engineering, bringing together the infrastructure, servicing and site requirements needed to support development.

How we integrate Three Waters

Three Waters solutions need to respond to the site they are being designed for. As locals with vast experience in the area, we’ve developed a strong understanding of how local ground conditions, topography and site constraints across Franklin and the surrounding regions can affect stormwater, wastewater and servicing options. We bring this understanding into the engineering, developing solutions that work with the site rather than treating each requirement in isolation.

Our Three Waters services can include:
Stormwater assessment and design, including collection, conveyance, treatment, detention and discharge.
Wastewater assessment and design, including on-site wastewater systems and connections to public networks.
Water supply and servicing assessments, including potable and firefighting water requirements.
Hydraulic and flood modelling where required to understand flow paths, capacity and potential effects of development.
Infrastructure capacity and servicing assessments for proposed developments.
Earthworks and site design coordination, ensuring Three Waters infrastructure works with the proposed development and existing site conditions.
Council and utility coordination, including liaison with Auckland Council, Watercare and other relevant authorities.
Resource consent and engineering approval support, including preparation of technical information and responses to requests for further information.

Not sure where to start? We're here to help.

We coordinate Three Waters requirements with the wider development and other project professionals, working closely with architects, surveyors, geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, planners and contractors where required.

Our approach is practical and integrated: understand the site, identify the constraints, design the appropriate solution and coordinate it through to approval and construction.
