Working With Us
How do I get started?
The best place to start is with a conversation about your project. Tell us what you’re planning, where the site is and what you’re hoping to achieve. Contact us with some details and we can talk through what’s involved, what engineering may be needed and what information we need to get things moving.
When should I involve Gibbons?
Ideally, as early as possible. Getting engineering input early can help identify site constraints, understand what’s possible and avoid unnecessary changes later in the project. If you already have plans or are further along, we can work from where you’re at.
Who will I work with?
We’re a small team, so everyone stays closely involved with our projects. You’ll work directly with our engineers when needed, and the whole team has a good understanding of what’s happening across each project from start to finish.
How involved are you during construction?
Our involvement depends on the project and what’s required. We can provide engineering support during construction, respond to queries and inspect work as required to make sure the design is being carried out as intended.
What happens if things change during the project?
Projects don’t always go exactly to plan. If something changes on site or the design needs to adapt, we work through the implications with you and provide an appropriate engineering solution.
Should I talk to an engineer before buying a property?
If you’re considering buying a property for a new home, subdivision or development, it can be worthwhile getting engineering advice early. We can help identify potential site constraints and give you a better understanding of what may be required before you commit to the project.
Can you work with my architect, builder or surveyor?
Yes. We regularly work alongside other professionals involved in a project and can coordinate with them where engineering input is required.
How much will engineering cost?
There is no set cost for engineering, as the requirements can vary significantly from project to project. We price each project based on the specific engineering requirements, including the scope, complexity, and level of design and documentation required.
Once we understand your project, we can provide a tailored fee proposal based on the work involved.
Projects & Services
What if I’m not sure what I need?
What engineering services do you provide?
We provide civil, structural and geotechnical engineering services, including foundations, earthworks, retaining structures, stormwater, wastewater & flood modelling.
Do you work on existing homes and buildings?
Yes. We provide engineering for alterations, additions and other work to existing homes and buildings, as well as new builds.
Do you work on subdivisions and developments?
Yes. We work on subdivision and development projects of varying sizes, including the engineering of earthworks, access, stormwater, wastewater, water supply and other site infrastructure.
Reports & Assessments
Do I need a report for my project?
It depends on the project and what you’re proposing. We can help identify whether an engineering report or assessment is needed and what it needs to cover.
Do I need a geotechnical investigation?
It depends on the site, the proposed work and the ground conditions. We can help determine whether a geotechnical investigation is needed and what level of investigation is appropriate for your project.
If you’re in Auckland then you will likely need some sort of Land Hazard Assessment to support your building consent application as this is now a requirement of PC120.
Can you assess an existing site or building?
Yes. We can assess existing conditions where engineering input is needed, including for alterations, additions, developments or other proposed work.
Can you work from an existing report?
Do you need access to the site?
It depends on the type of report or assessment. Some work can be completed from plans, existing information and previous reports, while other assessments require us to inspect the site. We’ll let you know what’s needed for your project.
Council & Consenting
Do I need a building consent?
Do I need a resource consent?
Can you deal with Council for me?
Yes. We can liaise with Council on engineering matters, including responding to requests for information or clarification relating to our work.
What happens if Council comes back with questions?
If Council requests further information or clarification about the engineering, we can review what they’ve asked for and work with you to provide the necessary response.
