Talitha Gibbons

Talitha is a Chartered Professional Engineer with more than 20 years’ experience in civil and geotechnical engineering. Her experience spans a broad range of residential, commercial and land development projects, with a particular focus on providing practical engineering solutions for sites where ground conditions, flooding, stormwater, wastewater or other site constraints need to be carefully considered.

With extensive experience working across both civil and geotechnical disciplines, Talitha takes a practical, hands-on approach to engineering. She works closely with clients, architects, builders and other consultants to understand the requirements of each project and develop solutions that are technically sound, cost-effective and appropriate for the site.

Talitha’s particular strength lies in the connection between civil and geotechnical engineering, bringing together an understanding of ground conditions and site constraints with the design and delivery of civil infrastructure. Her experience includes site investigations, ground assessment, foundation recommendations, earthworks, slope stability and geotechnical design, alongside stormwater and flood assessments, wastewater systems, hydraulic modelling and civil infrastructure design. This integrated approach allows her to consider how the ground, drainage, earthworks and infrastructure interact from the outset, helping to develop practical and cost-effective solutions that work for the site as a whole.

A significant part of Talitha’s work involves projects with complex site conditions or challenging consenting requirements. She has extensive experience working with local authorities and navigating the practical application of engineering standards, council requirements and site-specific constraints to help move projects through to construction.

Talitha believes good engineering is about more than producing a technically correct design. It is about understanding the site, identifying the issues early, communicating clearly and finding solutions that work in the real world.

Through Gibbons Civil Engineering Ltd, Talitha brings together broad civil engineering experience and specialist geotechnical knowledge to provide clients with practical, responsive engineering advice from the early stages of a project through to construction.

Talitha also volunteers as an Area Accessor for Engineering NZ and provides crucial technical expertise and evaluates peer engineers during the Chartered Assessment and reassessment process. This role requires Talitha to evaluate applications, provide technical insight, conduct interviews and make recommendations.
